Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Jim Smith Contracting is seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team working Monday through Friday and a lot of Saturdays   Job may require longer hours during peak months of construction.   In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diversified types of heavy equipment used in heavy highway construction. Our ideal candidate is someone who brings expertise in mechanics, a keen eye for detail, and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency.  This is a safety sensitive position.  Jim Smith Contracting is a drug free workplace and we have a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.

Key Responsibilities:

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, such as loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and cranes, ensuring optimal performance.
- Perform routine maintenance and preventative measures to extend equipment life and prevent downtime.
- Collaborate with equipment operators to ensure proper utilization and maintenance of machinery.
- Maintain detailed records of service and repair activities in compliance with company protocols.
- Inspect, service, and repair attachments and working tools as needed.
- Ensure all repair work is completed safely and to industry standards.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques.
- Assist in maintaining an organized, clean, and safe work environment.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in heavy equipment mechanics or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electronics relevant to heavy equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Physical ability to perform manual work, including lifting heavy parts and equipment.
- Valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work alone and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand, kneel and crouch for extended periods while working on/in equipment
• Climb in and out of equipment
