Jim Smith Contracting is accepting applications for a Screwman.   The successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence.  We are looking for long term employees who are seeking a great career.  The primary function of a Screwman (Screed Operator) is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade, and finish.    The Screwman is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.   In addition this position might occasionally perform traffic control duties.  This is a safety sensitive position.  Jim Smith Contracting is a drug free workplace, and we have a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, including THC.

 General Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Screed Operation:   Manually or electronically operate the scree controls to set and adjust the asphalt depth, grade and width to meet project specifications.
• Quality Control:  Ensure the asphalt mat has a consistent texture, smooth finish and proper compaction.
• Coordination:  Communicate effectively with the paver operator and other crew members to ensure a seamless and efficient paving operation.
• Material Monitoring:   Monitor the flow and temperature of the asphalt to ensure consistent distribution and prevent issues.
• Equipment Maintenance:  Conduct routine inspections of the screen and paving equipment, identify any maintenance needs and assist with basic upkeep.
• Surface Preparation:   Assist with clearing debris and ensuring the surface is properly prepared for paving.
• Following safety protocols

REQUIREMENTS:

• Related experience preferred but not required.

Compensation:

This position is paid according to the pay scale listed in the Laborer's Local 1214 contract.    The hourly pay is dependent upon when a job was bid but ranges between $40.82 and $47.32.
