The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of a heavy highway and bridge construction company. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate job cost records, assisting with month-end close, supporting project accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and industry-specific reporting requirements. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of construction accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and adjustments
• Perform account reconciliations for general ledger accounts
• Assist with preparation of financial statements and management reports
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Oversee fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations.
• Maintain inventory costing records and perform periodic inventory reconciliations
• Assist with insurance policy renewals by working with the company’s insurance agent to compile and submit updated equipment and vehicle listings
• Assist with special projects, reporting requests, and operational support initiatives as directed by upper management and field supervisors
• Assist with external audits and provide required documentation
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction accounting standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 1–3+ years of accounting experience (construction industry experience preferred)
• Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Spectrum, Foundation, CMiC, or similar ERP systems) preferred
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
• Knowledge of GAAP
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

• The base pay for this position ranges from $65,000 - $75,000. Pay is based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
